As Midsummer As it Comes - Lena Larsson
Midsummer - holier than Christmas in Sweden. Apart from being a day filled with aquavit, pickled herring & maypoles - it is the one day of the year Swedish parents decorate their children’s hair with flower crowns and make them pose for photographs. The tradition originates in the belief that if one picks 7 flowers from 7 pastures on midsummer's eve and then places the flowers under the pillow - one will dream of one’s future spouse.
I’m a huge fan of Vicki’s work and jumped at the chance to exhibit in Edinburgh along with her, and I love how Scotland and Sweden connect over pagan tradition and celebration of the seasons.
